I'm trying to eat more vegetables, fruits, and healthy grains, while curbing my appetite for everything else (meat, dairy, wheat, sugar). But if it's delicious, I'll eat it.
Someone once told me I ate like a bird, a comment that surprised me because I am constantly thinking of my next meal. Images of vultures daintily picking on a rib chop came to mind. Food is the only thing I go out of my way for, and yet I'll also go through phases where I'll eat nachos three nights in a row. Or macaroni and cheese. Or a jug of Coke. At a certain point, I realized I was pickier about what my cat ate (no wheat gluten, no animal meal or corn fillers, nothing fried), than what made up my own diet. So now I am trying to eat like a bird and chart my evolution. I want to eat wholesome, unprocessed foods for the most part, and caloric and fat-laden foods only on occasion (on the occasion that they are markedly tasty). And in those cases I shall try to exhibit a modicum of restraint because not only do I want to be healthy, I want to be thin in the manner of a Korean soap opera star (or wan vegan).
My favorite bird is the cedar waxwing. They eat a lot of fruit but kind of overdo it, getting drunk on the fermented stuff and smashing into glass windows all over New England. I don't wish to be that self-destructive, but I do think they make fruit seem more glamorous.
